Award Winning Director Known For Super Size Me And 30 Days

Morgan Spurlock, Oscar-Nominated Documentary Filmmaker, Dies at 53

Award-winning Director Known for 'Super Size Me' and '30 Days'

By Daniel Arkin and Diana Dasrath

Morgan Spurlock, the muckraking documentary filmmaker who chronicled a 30-day period when he subsisted solely on McDonald's food for his film Super Size Me, has died at the age of 53 due to complications from cancer.

Spurlock's groundbreaking 2004 documentary, which earned him an Academy Award nomination, examined the effects of the fast-food giant's menu on his health and sparked a national conversation about the dangers of excessive consumption of processed foods.

The filmmaker, who also hosted the CNN series 30 Days, continued to tackle social issues through his documentaries, including the gun control debate in Where to Invade Next and the opioid crisis in Rats.

Spurlock's death is a significant loss to the documentary film community and to those who were inspired by his fearless storytelling and unwavering commitment to social justice.
